About WheelCare, LLC
WheelCare, A Brief History
ABOUT WHEELCARE, LLC
With their home office in Mobile, AL, WheelCare, LLC is a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation company (NEMT company) that operates in various markets throughout the Southeastern United States. We transport patients, including those requiring wheelchair, to and from medical appointments, dialysis centers, nursing facilities, hospital discharges, and family events. We dedicate ourselves to safe, clean, and comfortable transportation for our clients and their family members.
We employ state-of-the-art technology to schedule, coordinate, and monitor our fleets to meet our clients’ appointments and event deadlines. Our target arrival is 10 minutes prior to appointment time. Within a 10-minute window of tolerance, we achieve an overall 98% punctuality rate. We give impeccable attention to the details of audits and render same-day satisfaction of audit exceptions.
To Brokers
While we serve urban areas, our forte has developed around the growing necessity of transportation brokers to serve rural areas. This requisite has refined our ability to strategically locate a team of service-oriented, well-credentialed drivers to serve the more expansive outlying markets and to mobilize them quickly and efficiently.
WheelCare’s Management Team
Our team combines over a century of practical experience that draws from a diverse background of knowledge. We focus this vast experience first and foremost on our patients. While our operation as a whole may draw from hard business skills, our patients are at the center of a very personal mission:
Rick Little
Retired after thirty years in the financial services industry, Rick founded WheelCare, LLC and serves as its president. In banking, Rick served in various capacities as a commercial lender and later as a trust officer. He eventually left banking and became an independent financial advisor.
Recognizing a true demand (one that hit home with Rick personally) for safe, reliable, clean, and punctual transportation, Rick set about forming WheelCare in 2013. The company took its first trip on January 13, 2014 and began efficiently meeting the demand in this sunrise industry.
Paula Straughn
Paula joined the company as a temporary driver shortly after our inception. Rick soon learned of her double-masters in Hospital Services and Health Administration, prior to her years of experience in the healthcare field. She later owned and operated a successful daycare business for a quarter-century. With these credentials, Paula quickly earned a spot on the WheelCare Management Team. Paula excels in putting the “Care” into WheelCare. As our Operations Manager, she is the face of our company to clientele and other associates, both individual and corporate.
Michael (Mickey) Smith
Mickey practiced law for over 40 years specializing in the areas of compliance and regulation.
Mickey’s skills of Employer/Employee Relations, Document Management, Customer Service, and Business Transaction Review, are ideal for handling our safety concerns, credentialing, and regulatory compliance, indigenous to our industry. Mickey is yet another face of our company. His quiet, easy-going manner that puts others at ease, masks a diligent proficiency.
It has been said and proven that a team of average individuals can out think, out maneuver, and make overall superior decisions than, any one genius. There is nothing average about our WheelCare Management Team.
